A McCook police officer's firing has been upheld by the McCook Civil Service Commission.

MCCOOK, Neb. (AP) - City Manager Jeff Hancock fired Officer Donald Smith Jr. in July after several alcohol-related incidents and poor performance.

The McCook Daily Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/U6q0JU) there were at least four alcohol-related incidents Smith was involved in. He was suspended three times in 2010 and ordered to complete an alcohol evaluation.

In January 2012, Smith was investigated for misconduct. And in June, Smith had a blood alcohol level 0.119 after he called in sick for work.
