A last-minute decision has given Congressman Adrian Smith a challenger this year.

Democrat Mark Sullivan says he decided to file just before the deadline when he noticed that Congressman Smith, a Republican, was running unopposed for re-election.

Mark Sullivan:

Sullivan is a fourth-generation Nebraska farmer from Doniphan. Though a Democrat, Sullivan says he believe elective officials should represent their constituents, not their party.
