USDA is predicting grocery prices to increase up to 4% in 2013, putting further pressure on food banks.
Perhaps no one is feeling the impact of higher food prices more than the Food Bank for the Heartland. Spokesman Brian Barks gives us an example of how higher grocery prices are impacting them.
Brian Barks: 
Barks says they receive about 50-percent of their food to distribute to food pantries from corporate donors but they have started to reduce supplies as well so there is less coming into the Food Bank's doors. Barks says their supplies are down hundreds of thousands of pounds as they head in to a very busy holiday season. The Food Bank for the Heartland serves 77 food pantries in Nebraska and 16 in western Iowa.
