LEXINGTON, Neb. (AP) - A 29-year-old Nebraska mother is appealing her manslaughter conviction for the death of her toddler.

Lexington radio station KVRN reports (http://bit.ly/T6Q29W ) that Doris Herrin of Gothenburg filed a notice of appeal earlier this month. Herrin is serving 18 to 20 years in prison for the death of her 3-year-old daughter, Misty.

Herrin was found guilty of manslaughter following a 5-day jury trial in August. Prosecutors argued that Misty had suffered three blows to her head and was shaken.

Her daughter was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage in December 2010. She died after being removed from life support.

The Dawson County District Court has appointed a new defense attorney, Brian Davis, for purposes of Herrin's appeal. Herrin intends to argue that she had ineffective counsel.
