ALLIANCE, Neb. (AP) - The state's Judicial Resources Commission has decided to keep a county court judgeship in the Panhandle of western Nebraska.
A judgeship vacancy will occur with the retirement of Judge Charles Plantz on Dec. 31.
The commission decided during a teleconference on Tuesday to retain the judgeship but base the new judge in Alliance.
The Judicial Resources Commission reviews caseloads and other factors when a vacancy occurs, determining whether the judgeship should be moved elsewhere in the state or retained where the vacancy occurred.
Plantz has been a judge in what is now the state's 12th Judicial District since his appointment in December 1991 by then-Gov. Ben Nelson. The district serves 12 counties, and Plantz has been based in Sheridan County's Rushville.
