Woman charged with theft from Nebraska village

Federal prosecutors have indicted a 51-year-old woman, accusing her of theft from the village of Santee while working as the village's clerk

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Federal prosecutors have indicted a 51-year-old woman, accusing her of theft from the village of Santee while working as the village's clerk.
 
     Online court records say Lila Mechaley is charged with theft or embezzlement.
 
     Radio station KNEN reports (http://bit.ly/VTZOSg) that Mechaley is accused of writing unauthorized checks to herself from the village's checking account from March 2010 through June 20 this year. Federal prosecutors have not specified how much Mechaley is alleged to have taken.
 
     A phone listing for Mechaley is no longer in service. Federal court records don't list the name of her attorney.
