The end of the year is almost here and tax preparers will soon begin tackling tax preparations for 2012. Christopher Miller, a spokesman for the Internal Revenue Service, says tax preparers in Nebraska are being asked to take some time now to schedule a required competency test.
Christopher Miller, IRS "the test"
Miller says the IRS wants to ensure the people filling out the forms know what they are doing.
Nebraskans who prepare other people's taxes for a living are required by the I-R-S to take a new competency test sometime over the next year. I-R-S spokesman Christopher Miller says the agency wants to make sure tax preparers are up to the task.
Miller "do our taxes"
The test isn't required to be completed until the start of 2014, but Miller says the I-R-S doesn't want preparers to wait.
The I-R-S is requiring all tax preparers in Nebraska and nationwide to undergo a new competency test, just to prove they know what they're doing. I-R-S spokesman Christopher Miller says the tests aren't due to be complete for almost a year, but the sooner preparers take the exam, the better.
Miller "avoid the rush"
Miller says there are still several hundred tax preparers in Nebraska who have to pass the competency test before the deadline.
