State legislators hear the pros and cons of tax reform this (WED) afternoon.
The Legislature's Revenue Committee begins two days of hearings on bills that would either do away with the state income tax or reduce it by eliminating sales tax exemptions.
Governor Heineman will make a presentation before the committee meeting at the Capitol. . .

Heineman, though, says he wants to hear not just what Nebraskans oppose, but what they are for.
The overall proposal would eliminate 2-point-4 Billion dollars in sales tax exemptions, enough revenue to offset the loss from income tax collections.


Governor Heineman says he wants to hear more than just what Nebraskans are against during a legislative hearing this (WED) afternoon on his proposal to end some sales tax exemptions in order to scrap the state income tax.
The Legislature's Revenue Committee is sure to hear complaints this afternoon from people who want to hold on to their sales tax exemption. . .
Heineman; "for the future"
Heineman will testify at the Revenue Committee hearing this afternoon. He says the current tax code is too complicated and hampers job growth.
Heineman proposes eliminating 2-point-4 Billion dollars in sales tax exemptions, enough to offset the loss of eliminating the state individual and corporate income tax.

State lawmakers this (WED) afternoon begin to hear from Nebraskans whether the state should do away with 2-point-4 Billion dollars in sales tax exemptions in order to do away with the state income tax.
Governor Heineman has released a list of sales tax exemptions to eliminate, but says he's open to what is included on that list. . .
Heineman; "in grocery stores"
The Legislature's Revenue Committee will hear testimony today on a bill that would eliminate the individual and corporate income tax. Tomorrow, the committee hears testimony on a smaller version of the bill that would be less sweeping.
