A North Platte man who spent more than a decade in prison for killing an 18-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to new charges.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A North Platte man who spent more than a decade in prison for killing an 18-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to new charges.
North Platte Police arrested 29-year-old Tyler Keup in November. North Platte television station KNOP reports that (http://bit.ly/158C1kN) Keup has pleaded not guilty to two counts of methamphetamine distribution, to possession of another drug and possession of a deadly weapon.
Keup was released from prison in 2011 after an appeal because he was 16 when he shot Maricella Martinez. The judge ruled in the appeal that Keup couldn't form the intent to kill, which was necessary for a second-degree murder conviction.
Keup originally was sentenced to 30-60 years. His sentence was reduced to 20 years, and he was released.
