A 23-year-old North Platte man accused of firing a rifle and engaging in a 90-minute standoff with police last month has pleaded not guilty to charges in the case.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A 23-year-old North Platte man accused of firing a rifle and engaging in a 90-minute standoff with police last month has pleaded not guilty to charges in the case.
Justin Valentine entered the pleas Monday in Lincoln County District Court. Valentine is charged with two counts of making terroristic threats, one count of attempted second-degree assault and two weapons counts.
Officers were sent to a house to investigate a report of a shooting on Jan. 19. Two people at the scene reported that Valentine had threatened them and fired a rifle in their direction. Neither was hit.
Police say Valentine surrendered peacefully after about 90 minutes.
Valentine remains in jail on $100,000 bail. His next hearing is set for April 22.
