VALENTINE, Neb. (AP) - Two men are dead and another has been hospitalized in shootings that involved a police officer in the northern Nebraska town of Valentine.

Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott tells Valentine radio station KVSH (http://bit.ly/10HENtJ) that a Valentine police officer responded to a report of a shooting just before midnight Tuesday. Scott says the officer arrived to find 54-year-old Rickey Homan dead, 76-year-old John Malone shot in the face and a suspect at the scene.

Scott says the officer shot and killed the suspect, identified by officials as 47-year-old Alvin Clark, of Valentine.

Authorities say Malone was taken to a Valentine hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Nebraska law requires a grand jury be convened anytime someone dies while in police custody or in the process of being apprehended.
