The Sandhills Summer Jam is being held Friday and Saturday, July 13-14, 10 miles north of Arthur, Nebraska, in the Nebraska Sandhills. In it's 3rd year, the music festival features Shooter Jennings, Blackberry Smoke, Kris Bell, Adam Fisher, Jared Birmingham, and Skinny Molly. The event allows people to camp all weekend, FOR FREE. The 3rd Annual Lake Mac Cleanup event is taking place Saturday, July 7, at Lake McConaughy. The event begins at 9:30am at the Sand's Edge parking lot. After the group is split into teams, volunteers pick up trash and debris at the lake. Following the cleanup, volunteers are treated to a delicious, AND FREE, lunch at Sand's Edge, along with door prizes. Ben Gilling, the chairman of the cleanup committee, says it has been growing steadily each year, and encourages entire families to get involved. He says teaching the youngsters the importance of personal responsibility and ownership of such a great asset can lead to years of enjoyment.
