Ogallala Public School Superintendent Carl Dietz talks about the latest bond proposal approved by the school board, and about the district's finances.
The Ogallala School Board on Monday approved a fourth attempt at building new facilities - this one with a nearly $15 Million price tag. The proposal would demolish the oldest portion of the middle school and Progress Elementary. It would move the football team's practice field from the Prairie View site to the former Progress site. And it would renovate and add on to the existing Prairie View facility to house Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grades.
Carl talks about the past year's worth of conversations, meetings and work conducted by the buildings and grounds committee of the school board. He offers some insight into how the committee arrived at that figure and what the building would, generally, look like.
Carl also talks about the district's finances and how, despite approximately $1.8 Million in reduced revenues over the past couple of years, it's in a position to begin boosting accounts outside the general fund - such as the depreciation fund and possibly, eventually, the building fund. He offers insight into the decisions made by the district to deal with huge funding cuts from the state.
